Wine and spirits branding agency

Wine and spirits branding that gets picked up off the shelf.

A bottle has about three seconds on a shelf, a back bar or a scrolling feed to earn a second look. Davel names, brands and packages wines and spirits so the story in the bottle is visible from the outside: Toonk Wines from Vayots Dzor, Barev Wine, and Mezcal Apeña in Los Angeles.

Nobody tastes the wine before they choose the bottle.
The label, the name and the shape of the packaging make the first sale. If they say nothing about where the wine comes from and who made it, the price tag becomes the only argument, and there is always a cheaper bottle.

A few honest questions for wine and spirits producers.

  1. When your bottle stands between two others on a shelf, what makes someone reach for yours? If you have to be there to explain it, the label is not working.
  2. How much of the story of your family, your region and your method actually makes it onto the bottle and the page?
  3. What has an unremarkable label cost you: the listing you did not get, the margin you gave away, the distributor who chose someone else?
  4. And when the next vintage comes out, will it look like the brand you want to be known for in ten years?
We build brands that carry the story, so the bottle can sell itself.
Case in point

Barev Wine: a new name in Armenian winemaking, told through nature.

Barev Wine is a new name in Armenian winemaking, made with French and German winemakers. The brief was a brand that felt impressive, elegant and contemporary, on a theme that could keep evolving without getting boring. We chose nature.

Subtle greens keep the label readable, shimmering gold marks the limited edition, and a custom typeface and a handwritten font were drawn only for Barev. The name means “hello” in Armenian, and the campaign line plays on it.

Toonk Wines: Naming, Branding & Packaging Design

Everything a bottle needs to be chosen.

Wine and spirits branding is a system, not a label. We build the whole system so it holds together on the shelf, on the website and in the tasting room:

  • Naming.A name that says where the wine is from and what it stands for, ready for the label.
  • Brand identity.Logo, typography, colour and the marks that make a family of vintages recognisable as one brand.
  • Labels and packaging.Label systems, bottle dressing, gift boxes and cases designed for print, so what you approve is what arrives.
  • Brand story and content. The words and the visuals that carry the origin story onto the website, the tasting room and social media.
  • Website and shop.A site that sells direct, tells the story and gets the visitor past the age gate without losing them.
  • Launch campaigns.Creative and paid campaigns for the new vintage, the new market or the new listing.
The difference is where we start.
We start with the story in the bottle.
Mezcal Apeña: Branding & Logo Design

Picture your bottle with the brand right.

A buyer picks it up in a store because it looks like nothing else on the shelf. A guest photographs it at the table without being asked. A distributor in a new market understands where it is from and why it costs what it costs, before the tasting begins.
That is what a label is for. Design is simply how it gets there.

How we brand a wine or a spirit.

Four steps, in this order. The label is the last thing we draw, not the first.

01

Origin.

We start with the region, the family and the method. Everything that makes the liquid what it is becomes the raw material for the brand.

02

Name and story.

Naming where it is needed, then the story in one line and one paragraph, agreed before a single label is drawn.

03

Identity and packaging.

Logo, label system and packaging developed in rounds, checked against real bottle shapes and real print methods.

04

Launch.

Files ready for the printer, a brand book for the team, and the website, content and campaigns that put the new bottle in front of buyers.

Branding is where Davel started.

Davel is a Los Angeles creative agency working since 2017, with more than 500 projects delivered and a 5.0 rating on Clutch. Naming, identity and packaging have been the core of the studio from the first year, and wine and spirits are where packaging matters most. Mezcal Apeña, a female-owned Los Angeles mezcal, carries its whole heritage in one mark: a Mexican woman, the agave and her earrings.
Our executive creative director judges the Webby, Drum and Digiday Awards, so your label is held to the standard the industry uses.

Questions people ask

Do you design the label only, or the whole brand?
Either. Some producers come with a strong name and need a label system; some need the name, the story and the identity from scratch. Discovery tells us which, and we tell you honestly on the first call.
Can you handle print production?
We design for print from day one, working to the printer’s specifications, bottle shapes and finishes, so the label you approve on screen is the label that arrives.
We are outside Los Angeles. Does that matter?
No. We have branded wines from Vayots Dzor and a mezcal from Los Angeles from the same studio. Samples travel, and so do we when it helps.
Can you also build the shop and run the launch?
Yes. Websites with direct sales, launch content and paid campaigns come from the same team, so the bottle, the site and the ads look like one brand.
What does it cost?
It depends on whether you need a label or a brand. Real numbers come after we understand the scope, which takes one call.
Like what you see?

Would it be worth one call to find out whether your bottle is telling its story?

Pick a time that suits you. One call, no slides, no pitch: you leave knowing whether your label is working for you or against you.
